As a quick design challenge of about 12 hours, I created an iOS app concept for a British pop-up cooking event series. I went through several steps of the design thinking process, including user research, problem definition/how might we statements, ideation and wireframing. Furthermore, I used behavioral psychology phenomenons to make target users happy and make the app as enjoyable as possible. What I came up with as an end result is a user flow, wireframes for most important app screens as well as rough drafts for the UI design of the app – all in iOS look and feel.

The two main user groups of a foodie pop-up event app would be foodies (event guests) and vendors. For insight into the customer needs and issues of these two target groups, I conducted two user interviews and filled out empathy maps to build user understanding.
the biggest need lies with the vendor
As it turns out, while the foodies are easier to please and empathise with, the vendors are the ones who are taking risks and encountering hardships trying to sell their food. This is because
- their income depends on success of event
- many external factors influence this success
- sales are not plannable = waste of food, time and money — this can lead to existential problems when costs aren’t reimbursed.
After the interviews and empathy mapping, I also created a Customer Journey Map to bring the needs of the vendor together with the perspective of the customer. Based on the vendor's main issues, paired with other details from the empathy maps, I defined the most important problems using how might we questions.
how might we get the customer to definitely come to the event?
how might we get more people to come to the events?
how might we give the vendor(s) and customers allergy & diet information?
how might we do all that without losing customers?
How might we get the customer to definitely come to the event?
incentivised pre-payment
punishment for no-shows reward for showing up
functions limited to people at the event / members of voluntary club
how might we get more people to come to the events?
incentivised social sharing
add more flair with art, music, etc.
involve them in decisions (e.g. which vendor should we invite next?)
how might we give the vendor(s) and customers allergy & diet information?
user profiles with diet information that is shared on RSVP
ingredients list with allergenics for customers
how might we do all that without losing customers?
